Our Philosophy of Food and Wine

We believe it is only through the interplay of food and wine that the subtleties of both are revealed. To us, dining is more than just the food and wine - it is the story of our culinary team, our family, and how agriculture, when in balance with nature, compliments everything at Banner Elk Winery & Villa. Lunch and dinners are offered by reservations in advance only, we are not currently offering daily lunch and dinners.

Our special event "Farm to Table" dinners begin with a glass in hand and a nibble from the vineyard kitchen, followed by a stroll through the kitchen garden. Here, the season's offerings are explored, accompanied by a lively philosophical discussion of food and wine. A peek into the barrel room offers a brief overview of winemaking, after which a convivial gathering at the farm table furthers the conversation with an exploration of seasonal delights from our vineyard kitchen.

The ingredients change seasonally, and are grown locally, either here on the grounds of Banner Elk Winery & Villa or from local farmers. Vegetables and fruits from our gardens are served with artisan cheeses from local purveyors. Tastes of the day can include a selection of tartlets and other baked goods, fresh and preserved fruits and vegetables, cheeses which are sometimes produced with Banner Elk wines, salume, nuts, marinated olives with herbs from our garden, and "of the moment" treats created by our chefs.

All recipes are created with wine pairings in mind. Yet, we encourage our guests to experiment pairing the wines with a variety of foods.

Banner Elk Winery & Villa welcomes you to our teaching kitchen. Master kitchen basics, new techniques and discover for yourself how our chefs make cooking more flavorful. All skill levels will have a grand time learning from award winning executive chef Nicole Palazo and chef Amos Niddifer. We offer á la carte classes, cooking series classes, culinary weekend programs, and weeklong master classes. Special classes for private groups can be scheduled.

The "Farm to Table" dining experiences are offered by appointment only and are limited to a maximum of 16 guests. Teaching Kitchen classes are by reservation only and spaces are limited.
